Breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread and fish to the disciples to give to the people. They all ate as much as they wanted, and they picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish.
Mark 6:41-43 NLT

Break Thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me, As though didst break the loaves beside the sea; Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord; My spirit pants for Thee, O Living Word!
Mary Artemisia Lathbury

Bread of Life While Break Thou the Bread of Life is often sung during Communion, it is really intended to prepare the heart for Bible study. The great London preacher G. Campbell Morgan customarily read the words of the hymn before his midweek service. The author, Mary Lathbury, was better known as a commerical artist than as a poet. Her illustrations regularly appeared in the popular magazines of the 19th century. She was a devout Christian who often vacationed at Lake Chautauqua, where she became one of the founders of a new movement. Mixing Christian inspiration, culture, and education, the Chautauqua movement spread across the country.…As she sat with her Bible, overlooking Lake Chautauqua, she thought of the disciples at the Sea of Galilee and wrote this hymn. Mary Lathbury's desire was to take Bible students "beyond the sacred page" to meet the living Word.

It makes me want to go and read the word and meet the Living Word!

Identification with Christ

I am currently listening to this really good tape series by Duanne Sheriff, from Durant, Oklahoma. The series is on Identification with Christ. I have finished the first tape on the Humantiy of Jesus. That Jesus is 100% God, but also 100% Man, and how people focus alot on Him being God, which they should, but also that he became a Man, in every way as we are, so that he could identify with us, and then take on our sinful nature at the cross, be crucified, die, be buried, and be raised by the Father through the Holy Spirit, so that we can identify with Him. That Jesus death was our death, and His resurrection is an will be our resurrection. It is one of the precious truths of the gospel and of Christianity that sets it apart from every other religion. We don't have to work our way to God, we have a God that put on flesh, and paid the penalty for our sin, so that we could be reconciled to Him. How amazing is that! Jesus truly is the only way to the Father!

I will post more as I listen to more of the series. If anyone wants to know more about the series, let me know. Also, the best thing is, is that all of Duanne Sheriffs tapes are absolutely free, and you can order as many as you want! Just know that his tapes will be about Jesus, and about an hour long.

Hope Pregnancy Center

I am so excited to be a volunteer counselor at a Hope Pregnancy Center. God has established authority and submission through the act of creation. He has set forth roles and responsibilities for both male and female, husband and wife, and men and women in the church. In Adrian Warnock’s post, we follow the string of verses that he gave, in the order that they were put forth. These verses do form a picture and we have found 1 Corinthians 11:3 best represents that picture.

But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man
is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.

In this passage of scripture, we see that God has revealed authority, submission, and roles through headship. First, we see that God is the head of Christ and Christ is the head of every man, therefore all men must submit to his authority. How we are to submit to that authority is through humility.[1] The same type of humility which Jesus Christ himself gave to us an example that we should follow.[2] Next, we see that “man is the head of a woman.” This part of the verse is played out in both the home and the church. In the home, we have passages of Scripture that shows how the husband and wives work out their roles and responsibilities.[3] In the church, we have passages of Scripture that shows how men and women function in the roles in a church service.[4]

God, through the letters of the New Testament, appealed to creation as the foundation of authority and submission through headship. In the beginning, God created man and woman,[5] Adam and Eve.[6] Eve’s role was to be Adam’s helpmate.[7] God commanded Adam to not eat of the tree in the middle of the garden.[8] Satan deceives Eve and she eats from the tree with Adam by her side.[9] God called Adam not Eve into account for their actions.[10] As the results of Adam’s disobedience to the command, God judges them.[11] God establishes headship through the command given and calling Adam into account for their actions.

In conclusion, we find authority and submission is rooted in Scripture to establish roles for men and women in the home and the church. God will honor the one who is humble and who will tremble and obeys His word. In doing so, the Word of God will not be dishonored.[12]

[1] Isaiah 66:2
[2] Matthew 23:11-12, Philippians 2:3-10
[3] Colossians 3:18-19, Ephesians 5:22-33, 1 Peter 3:1-7, Titus 2:1-8, 2 Timothy 1:5
[4] 1 Timothy 2:11-14, 1 Corinthians 14:34-35, Acts 18:26
[5] Genesis 1:27
[6] Genesis 2:7, 18-25
[7] Genesis 2:18
[8] Genesis 2:9, 16-17
[9] Genesis 3:1-7
[10] Genesis 3:8-12
[11] Genesis 3:16-19
[12] Titus 2:5

Testing the Post!

This is a test, this is only a test.
